As an entrepreneur, I spent a long time focused on one key metric when evaluating my business.  The numbers.  And it didn’t matter if it was top line revenue, profit, profit per customer, number of customers, etc.  the only attention I was giving was to the numbers.

I spent 5 years of sleepless nights building a business that wasn’t in line with my life’s vision because the only thing that I thought mattered was the numbers. I didn’t think about what I wanted my everyday life to look like.

I just thought….go BIG and THEN you can live your life the way you want.

And so it kind of threw me into this tailspin when the first business didn’t work out.  Even though I had gained so much from my experience, developed a life long friendship, and grew as an individual and entrepreneur, it felt like failure.  So I started again, and without even thinking about it I starting building a second biz on the same exact precedent.

Until, something in me finally switched.  Success doesn’t have to be defined exclusively by the numbers.  We don’t have to sacrifice everything in order to achieve success.  We can have it ALL.  But I truly believe that in order to get there, we have to define what we want first.  Otherwise, the ship will steer us and we’ll look back and ask ourselves, “how did we even get here”.
